presence in the work

presence is defined as the state or fact of existing, occurring, or being present in a place or thing.  it is literally being here, now.  here and now are the only actual states of existing, so being present is the only real way to be.  remembering and projecting are still done right here, right now.  how then can the artist ever be removed from the work?  even in the most abstracted and technical pieces there is an inherent presence.  those sages that work with these ideas often postulate a place between our thoughts, where we find calmness, stillness, and a sacred presence.  this indicates that our presence knits our souls back into the metaversal whole.

the great diarist Anais Nin felt; we don’t see the world as it is, we see the world as we are.  we are solopsistic genetically, yet have the memetic capabilities to expand our consciousness to others.  it is the next stage in our evolution to grow and stretch the parts of the brain that think about and interact with others, our empathy pathways.  the way we think, influenced by our language shapes the way our world is perceived, it shapes the very way that we can possible interact with everything around us.  knowing this and also knowing that we can change and rewire our thinking and language, we can alter the way we move through the world.

a universe is really something you are.  uni equals one, your consciousness is a universe.  the multiverse (or metaverse) is the idea of a set of multiple universes that constitute everything that exists and can exist.  all of space, time, matter, and energy as well as the physical laws and constants that describe them.  your existence in your own universe is unquestionable, how much presence and interaction with the multiverse is varied and uncertain.  our presence is caught up and woven into the metapresence.

in physics, work is when a force acts on a body so that there is a displacement however small, in the direction of the force.  work is movement.  when we are thinking and learning and using our brain to appreciate culture, we are moving electrical impulses through our brains.  our brains use twenty percent of the body’s energy just running the basic programming, the energy consumption goes up the harder problems we tackle.  thinking and dreaming is definitely work.

cognitive behaviourists have shown that being more active physically can have positive affect on negative pathologies.  so the work itself is as important as the cognition and intelligence behind it.  the presence and the work combined.  moving those ideas out of yourself and into the practice is the art of creation; the finished, polished product is just that, a product of art.  the presence pushes the work, the work supports the presence.  appreciate not exclusively the product, art is the movement, the practice, presence in the work.

it is a balance between, thought and action, singular and plural.  this is the art of being. stillness of presence, where consciousness arises from, where you can hear the memes’ desires.  executing, performing, accomplishing is the other end of the stillness.  your presence in the work is inevitable, how it gets read by your audience is under your control.  presence in the work is just simply your life.  the performance and execution of your life is art.  how we share this with others is our legacy.  in this we are all artists, and there is no such thing as art for art’s sake, but the sake of everything.
